All Indonesian SMEs will gather at BSD, holding a retail party

Rakyat Digital. PT HM Sampoerna Tbk (Sampoerna) held a National Retail Party (PRN) on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at ICE BSD City. This annual activity is a form of appreciation and a forum that aims to stimulate the spirit of productivity as well as the competitiveness and development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially traditional Sampoerna partners' partners who are members of the Sampoerna Retail Community (SRC).

The event, which was opened by the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartanto, was held with the theme "Come Forward, Come Together, Come Share" and present 3,000 elected SRC representatives from various regions in Indonesia.

"For more than 10 years through the umbrella company 'Sampoerna for Indonesia' we have consistently supported the government in building the foundation of people's economy through empowering SMEs in Indonesia. Sampoerna's long-term investment focuses on empowerment programs that have an impact on the nation's economic growth with providing assistance to traditional retailers who are members of the Sampoerna Retail Community, "said Henny Susanto, Head of Commercial Affairs & Business Development at Sampoerna.

The Director of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (APINDO) of the Agung Pambudhi Research Institute explained that the retail industry, especially traditional retailers, still has room to continue to grow. Until now, according to him, traditional stores are still a favorite shopping place because of the location and ease of getting daily necessities.

"What is equally important is the richness of social values in the relationship between traditional retail and buyers based on trust," he explained.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2016 itself stated that the retail sector contributed 15.24% of total GDP and absorbed employment of 22.4 million or 31.81% of non-agricultural labor. In addition, the distribution of Indonesian retail stores in 2017 is still dominated by traditional stores (82.3%). This data shows that the strategy of opening traditional retail stores is still aggressive, which is considered more effective.

Agung further added that many traditional and SME retailers are now able to increase their sales and profits because they get help and support in terms of implementing a limited scale modern retail system, such as: goods arrangement, inventory control, sales and financial records, and system support Simple IT.

The magnitude of traditional retail potential to continue to develop must be supported optimally by creating synergies from the government and the business sector.

The Deputy for Coordination of the Creative Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Competitiveness of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Muhammad Rudy Salahuddin appreciated Sampoerna's steps in encouraging the development of national retail.

"We appreciate Sampoerna's initiative in assisting traditional retail stores facing challenges, especially in the digitalization era like now. The synergy of the government with the private sector who has expertise in the retail world such as Sampoerna is an initiative that is right on target," he said.

Sampoerna's SME mentoring programs are carried out in the form of integrated capability development. Simultaneously Sampoerna conducts a coaching program for SRC members through shop management education, marketing strategies, and financial management. Through this, it is expected that traditional retailers can accelerate with changing times, be economically independent, and contribute to the welfare of the surrounding community.

To provide education through real experience of commercial ecosystems, PRN displays replicas of traditional retail stores and coaching simulations. The participants will get knowledge about the role of the SRC in building socio-economic and involvement of all lines to strengthen the SRC community network.

"Through the PRN's three main missions," Come Forward, Come Together, Come Share ", Sampoerna always takes an active role that has an impact on improving quality for partners, members and the wider community," Henny continued.

Along with the PRN activities, Sampoerna also made innovative breakthroughs to strengthen its commercial ecosystem through the use of digital technology, namely by launching the application "Ayo SRC" to facilitate access of SRC members to information about fostering SMEs from Sampoerna.

Regarding the use of digital technology, Wardoyo as the Deputy Secretary of the Business Restructuring Division of the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises expressed his opinion, "The utilization of information technology in the process of developing Cooperatives and SMEs in 2017 is approximately 152,714 Cooperative units and 815,717 perpetrators UKM becomes very important.
